Michael almost jumped when he heard Eli's voice and put a hand to his
chest. "Eli! Hi. Sorry. I don't usually react like a startled cat when
people say hello," he gave a nervous little laugh, not pausing to wonder
why he'd feel nervous at all. "I've got a new mother driving me batty and I
was so sure she was going to call again and waiting for the phone to ring,
hearing a voice instead offset me a little."
